Where to get it and where to sell it?
Celebrities, socialites, men and women, young and old, typically have some sort of designer items in their closets. Celebrities on the way up and socialites don’t care to be photographed in the same thing twice so their wardrobes are often in a constant state of recycling. But what do they do with their items they no longer need, want, or have room for? Some give away to friends and family, some give away to local charity’s but many will contract with an auction company or consign with a resale firm to get some return on their investments.
Brands that we sell on behalf of clients include Gucci, Dior, Louis Vuitton, Prada, Chanel, Pucci, Hermes, Ralph Lauren, and Versace but we also consign vintage designer items with success.
People love designer clothing and accessories because they are synonymous with wealth like the iconic Hermes Birkin bag, the Chanel quilted handbag, Louis Vuitton’s initials, and Versace’s medulla logo. Over time, some of these statement pieces can increase in value 10 fold and more.
Louis Vuitton is always a favorite of our network of buyers. Many do not realize that Vuitton first gained notoriety in 1854 when he began creating trunks, luggage, and accessories branded with their family name. Their creations soon expanded into the fashion house that we know today. It is now one of the most valuable and collectible luxury brands in the world. The recognizable LV monogram print carries an instant connotation of wealth and luxury.
Other brands like Dior also have their following. Dior, first launched its initial collection in 1947 and was the ‘go-to’ choice of first ladies and celebrities. Vintage Dior in good condition can fetch an impressive return as well.
Hermes and Chanel are the grand-pooh-bah of collectors right now. Vintage Chanel earrings such as the “bird cage” can easily fetch over $1000 and Hermes scarves start at $500 for the Tohu Bohu in bright colors. Hermes blanks from days gone by that retailed for about $700 can now be sold for over $3800.00 in our first hand experience.
Because in past years, designers have toned down their elegance, and rebranded their collections under the term “street wear”. It may not look like a million bucks, but some pieces, can be valuable. Look for suede jackets, fur trimmed, and leathers. Also desirable to buyers are towering high heels, rhinestone studded pumps, or anything with the designer logos front and center.
